Yanakie sits on a narrow isthmus at the gateway to Wilsons Promontory National Park, offering snorkelers access to both Corner Inlet and Shallow Inlet. These shallow, sandy-bottomed tidal bays are protected from ocean swells, creating calm, warm conditions ideal for beginners. The inlets are teeming with fish, stingrays, and crabs, with seagrass beds feeding a rich marine ecosystem. Duck Point Beach provides a boat ramp and easy shore access. The backdrop of Wilsons Promontory's granite peaks makes this a uniquely scenic spot for a relaxed underwater exploration.

Low risk: Outgoing tide current in Shallow Inlet
As the tide ebbs, water drains from the shallow inlet creating noticeable currents that can carry snorkelers away from entry points. Best snorkeled on a rising or high tide.
Low risk: Cold water temperatures
Southern Ocean waters around Yanakie are cool year-round (12-18°C), with winter temperatures posing a risk of cold shock or hypothermia without proper wetsuit protection.
Low risk: Boat traffic near Duck Point ramp
Duck Point Beach has a boat ramp and is a popular launching spot for fishers. Snorkelers should stay clear of the ramp channel and keep a lookout for boat traffic.
Low risk: Stingrays
Shallow Inlet is known for resident stingrays buried in sandy patches. Snorkelers should shuffle their feet when wading to avoid stepping on them.
