Yallingup Lagoon is a sheltered, reef-protected natural pool on the edge of Yallingup Beach in Western Australia's Southwest Capes. Calm and crystal-clear year-round, this shallow 1–3 m sanctuary is protected from the open ocean swells by a granite limestone reef, creating perfect conditions for families and beginners. Its sanctuary zone status means marine life thrives here — snorkellers drift among colourful fish, starfish, and the occasional stingray in water so clear it feels like swimming in an aquarium. Accessed via a short stair descent from the southern end of the main beach, it's a small but spectacular spot best visited at low to mid-tide on calm summer days.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Swell overtopping reef

On rough days waves can break over the protective reef, creating surge inside the lagoon.

  • Low risk: Low tide shallow depth

At low tide the lagoon becomes very shallow (less than 1 m), limiting swim space and exposing reef.

  • Low risk: Crowded conditions

The lagoon is small and popular, getting crowded quickly on fine summer days.

  • Low risk: Slippery rocks at entry

The stairs and limestone shelf leading into the water can be slippery.

  • Low risk: Swell surge over reef

During larger swell events, waves can wash over the protective reef shelf, creating sudden surge and strong wash near the reef edge.

  • Low risk: Slippery limestone rocks

The limestone shelf and rocks at the entry point can be extremely slippery when wet, requiring careful footing.

  • Low risk: Limited parking fills early

The small gravel car park above the lagoon fills by mid-morning in peak summer season, requiring alternative parking at the main Yallingup Beach lot.
