Wongarra Reef is a rugged exposed reef break along Victoria's wild Surf Coast, near the small locality of Wongarra between Apollo Bay and Lorne. The reef creates powerful waves over a shallow sandstone platform, making it more renowned among surfers than casual snorkelers. On calm days with low swell, the reef offers a raw, untamed underwater landscape of rock channels and kelp beds where hardy snorkelers can explore the temperate southern ocean environment.
