Wiki Wiki Wild West is a vibrant outer Great Barrier Reef dive and snorkel site located roughly 55 km north-east of Cairns, North Queensland. This open-ocean reef site features impressive coral bommies, colourful soft coral gardens, and clear tropical waters that attract a wealth of reef fish. The exposed position on the outer reef means you can encounter stronger currents and deeper drop-offs, offering a more adventurous snorkelling experience than sheltered inner reef sites. Named for its wild, exposed character, it's a favourite among tour operators seeking pristine coral and diverse marine life on the outer reef.

Moderate risk: Outer reef currents
Moderate to strong currents can sweep across the outer reef, especially during tidal changes. Snorkelers should stay close to the boat and follow the guide's instructions.
Moderate risk: Stinger season (jellyfish)
Marine stingers, including box jellyfish and Irukandji, are present in tropical North Queensland waters during the warmer months from November to May.
Low risk: Wind chop and swell
The site is exposed to the open ocean; southeasterly trade winds (May–October) can create choppy surface conditions and reduced visibility.
Low risk: Sharp coral bommies
Sharp coral bommies and reef structures are present near the surface. Snorkelers should wear protective footwear and avoid touching coral.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Boat traffic from multiple tour operators visiting the same reef system. Snorkelers must be aware of boat movements and surface markers.
