Whyalla Foreshore is a calm, sheltered beach at the top of Spencer Gulf on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula, set against a striking backdrop of red desert and turquoise sea. The foreshore offers easy shore access from a wide sandy beach, making it a popular spot for families and beginner snorkellers. The shallow, protected waters provide a gentle introduction to the region's temperate marine life, with the circular jetty nearby adding interest. Whyalla is globally famous for its annual mass aggregation of giant Australian cuttlefish (May–August), and the foreshore waters are part of the rich Upper Spencer Gulf Marine Park ecosystem.

Low risk: Outgoing tide current
Gentle outgoing currents near the jetty can carry swimmers away from shore, especially during ebb tides.
Low risk: Summer heat and sun exposure
Intense Australian sun and high summer temperatures increase risk of sunburn and heat exhaustion from December to February.
Low risk: Stinger jellyfish
Bluebottles and occasional box jellyfish can drift into Spencer Gulf waters during warmer months.
Low risk: Cold water (12–15°C)
Water temperatures range 12–15°C (54–59°F) during cuttlefish season. A 5–7mm wetsuit is essential to prevent hypothermia during extended snorkelling.
Low risk: Rocky shore entry
Entry points are over uneven, rocky terrain. Booties or reef shoes are essential to protect feet from sharp rocks and cuts.
