West Island's north and south beaches offer some of the most pristine, uncrowded snorkelling in the Indian Ocean. The northern end is home to Trannies Beach, a sheltered sandy entry with calm, crystal-clear lagoon waters perfect for beginners. The southern end, accessed via Scout Park, features a short reef walk across to Pulu Maraya island where shallow coral gardens teem with parrotfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, clams, and friendly turtles. Protected by an outer reef, the warm turquoise lagoon (26-29°C year-round) is part of one of the world's largest marine sanctuaries.

Low risk: Tide-dependent reef crossing
At the southern end, a reef walk across to Pulu Maraya is possible only at low to mid tide. Misjudging tides can leave swimmers stranded or require a long swim back.

Sharp coral and rocks are present on the reef flats and around Pulu Maraya. Reef shoes are strongly recommended.
