Two Caves is a unique snorkel and dive site off the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, centred around a deliberately sunk illegal Sri Lankan boat that now serves as an artificial reef. A school of batfish has made the wreck their home, while the nearby drop-off reveals two small caves where white-tip reef sharks often rest. The site lies within the pristine waters of the southern atoll, offering encounters with turtles, manta rays, and even the resident dugong known as 'Kat'. Crystal-clear visibility and abundant coral gardens make this a spectacular spot for intermediate snorkellers who want to explore both the wreck and the natural cave formations.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • High risk: Tropical cyclone season

Tropical cyclones can develop from December to March, making boat access to the site dangerous or impossible.

  • Moderate risk: Tidal currents at drop-off

Strong currents can occur at the drop-off near the caves, especially during tidal changes. Snorkellers should be comfortable swimming against a current.

  • Low risk: Resting white-tip reef sharks in caves

White-tip reef sharks are often found resting inside the two small caves. While generally non-aggressive, they should not be disturbed or cornered.
