Tweed River / The Spit is a popular shore-entry snorkel site where the Tweed River meets the Pacific Ocean near Tweed Heads on the NSW–Qld border. This unique spot offers protected river-side swimming alongside deeper tidal channels that flush in clear ocean water. Known locally as "Little D'bah," the site features rocky ledges and sandy patches that shelter an array of muck-dwelling marine life. At high tide, visibility improves significantly, making it a favourite for beginners and intermediate snorkelers looking for a convenient, family-friendly experience close to the Gold Coast.

Moderate risk: Outgoing tide current
Strong outgoing tidal flow can sweep snorkelers out toward the ocean mouth. Best snorkeled at or near high tide with slack water.
Low risk: Boat traffic
The river mouth is used by recreational fishing boats and jet skis. Stay aware and close to the rocky edge.
Low risk: Variable visibility
Visibility can drop after rain or on outgoing tides. High tide offers the clearest conditions.
