Situated where the Tweed River meets the ocean at Tweed Heads, this shore-accessible snorkel site offers a unique river-mouth experience with a rocky breakwall teeming with estuary and marine life. The concrete entry at Coral Street makes it one of the easiest spots to reach between the Gold Coast and northern NSW. Best explored at high tide on a drift along the wall, snorkelers can peer into crevices to spot wobbegong sharks, moray eels, octopus, lionfish, and crayfish, plus curious filefish and nudibranchs among the encrusted boulders. Its shallow depth (max 9 m) and mix of sheltered and current-rich waters make it an accessible adventure for confident beginners and intermediates alike.

Moderate risk: Boat traffic
The river mouth is a busy channel used by many vessels. Snorkelers must stay close to the wall and display a dive flag buoy to remain visible.
Moderate risk: Strong river current
Outgoing tide and river outflow can produce strong currents, particularly around the corner from Little Duranbah Beach. Best dived as a drift at slack high tide.
Moderate risk: Venomous bottom-dwellers
Stonefish and lionfish inhabit the rocky wall. Avoid touching the bottom or rocks to prevent injury.
Low risk: Reduced visibility after rain
Rainfall in the preceding days significantly reduces visibility (often less than 1 m). Avoid snorkeling after heavy rain for best conditions.
Low risk: Irritant algae on rocks
Some algae along the wall can irritate skin. Wearing gloves and a full wetsuit is recommended.
