Tumby Bay's historic jetty and sheltered sandy beach offer some of the Eyre Peninsula's most accessible snorkelling, set against a pine-tree-lined foreshore of crystal-clear turquoise waters. Beginners drift along the beach shallows amid seagrass beds, while the jetty pylons — encrusted with colourful sponges and aquatic plant life — are a renowned haunt for a resident colony of leafy seadragons, along with seahorses, nudibranchs, and the occasional southern rock lobster. The jetty sits within the Sir Joseph Banks Group Marine Park, providing protected, nutrient-rich waters that teem with squid, octopus, reef fish, and blue swimmer crabs. A swimming pontoon with ladders and jetty stairs make entry easy, and the calm bay conditions suit families and novice snorkellers just as well as advanced divers seeking the deeper pylon zone.

Low risk: Jetty fishing activity
Fishing lines and hooks from anglers on the jetty can pose entanglement and injury risks for snorkellers, especially near the pylons.
Low risk: Boat traffic near jetty
Boats and dinghies launching from the nearby ramp and marina operate around the jetty area; snorkellers should stay visible and avoid the main channel.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
Tidal movement around the jetty pylons can strengthen on an outgoing tide, potentially tiring swimmers or pulling them away from the beach.
Low risk: Fishing lines and hooks
The jetty is used by fishers; be aware of fishing lines, hooks, and sinkers in the water around the pylons.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Small boats and recreational vessels may operate near the jetty. Keep an eye out for boat traffic.
Low risk: Current near jetty stairs
Moderate tidal current can develop around the deeper jetty stairs and pontoon area, especially during outgoing tide.
