Trousers Point Beach is a stunning 1.8 km crescent of white sand on Flinders Island's south-west coast, within Strzelecki National Park. Protected by granite headlands splashed with orange lichen and backed by the imposing Mt Strzelecki, this sheltered cove offers crystal-clear, shallow waters with a gentle sandy entry. The beach faces west towards the Chappell Islands and the Bass Strait beyond, with periodic westerly swells adding movement. Its calm conditions, scenic beauty, and easy shore access make it the island's most popular snorkelling and swimming beach.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Remote location

Flinders Island is remote with limited mobile reception and no nearby medical facilities. Snorkel with a buddy and bring supplies.

  • Low risk: Variable Wind Exposure

The headland offers shelter on most sides, but winds can shift suddenly across Bass Strait, creating chop on the water surface.

  • Low risk: Sun Exposure

Limited shade on the beach and intense Australian UV, even during cooler months. Sun protection essential.

  • Low risk: Westerly wind waves

Periodic higher westerly wind waves can arrive from north or south of the Chappell Islands, increasing swell and reducing visibility.

  • Low risk: Periodic westerly swells

The beach is exposed to periodic westerly wind waves arriving from north or south of the Chappell Islands, which can create unexpected swell and stronger surf conditions.

  • Low risk: Strong tidal currents offshore

Many dive and snorkel sites around Flinders Island are subject to strong tidal currents; while the beach itself is sheltered, venturing beyond the headlands increases risk.

  • Low risk: Periodic westerly wind waves

The beach is exposed to periodic higher westerly wind waves arriving from north or south of the Chappell Islands, which can stir up sediment and reduce visibility.
