Torquay Beach is a calm, family-friendly stretch of sand along the Esplanade in Hervey Bay, sheltered by Fraser Island (K'gari) to create gentle swimming conditions. A vibrant fringing reef lies just 50 metres offshore, accessible at incoming low tide, where snorkellers can explore colourful coral bommies teeming with tropical fish. The beach's north-facing aspect means calm, protected waters most of the year, making it one of the best shore-entry snorkelling spots on the Fraser Coast without needing a boat.

Moderate risk: Stinger season
Box jellyfish may be present in Queensland coastal waters during warmer months; stinger suits recommended.
Low risk: Incoming low tide reef exposure
The reef is best accessed at incoming low tide, but exposed coral can be sharp and cause cuts if waded over without fins or reef shoes.
Low risk: Bluebottle jellyfish
Bluebottle (Portuguese man o' war) stings can occur during warmer months when prevailing northerly winds push them inshore.
