The Tiwi Islands (Bathurst and Melville) sit 80 km north of Darwin in the Timor Sea, surrounded by pristine offshore reefs that remain largely untouched. These fringing and patch reefs drop into deep blue-water channels teeming with marine life, offering clear warm waters, coral bommies, and dramatic tidal flows. Part of Aboriginal-owned land, the reefs here are accessed only via guided tours, preserving their wild character. Snorkelers explore vibrant coral gardens alongside trevally, barramundi, and reef fish in a remote, culturally significant setting — a true frontier snorkeling destination.
