Tiger Reef is a semi-exposed reef system east of Bowen in the Whitsundays, prized for its abundant schooling fish and vibrant coral gardens. This lesser-known gem sits beside Kangaroo Reef and offers snorkelers pristine bommies, swim-throughs, and steep drop-offs that attract large pelagics. Its remote location means fewer crowds and remarkably healthy hard and soft coral cover, with visibility often exceeding 20 metres. A true off-the-beaten-path experience on the Great Barrier Reef.

Semi-exposed location can experience moderate to strong currents, especially on tide changes. Best snorkeled on slack tide.

The reef is open to the Coral Sea and can be affected by strong southeasterly trade winds from May to October, creating choppy surface conditions.
