The Wreck refers to the rusting remains of the SS Wollongbar, a steamer that broke from its moorings and sank off Belongil Beach in 1922. At low tide, the exposed iron wreckage creates a striking snorkeling site just metres from shore. Shifting sands periodically cover or reveal the structure, offering a unique glimpse into maritime history amid calm, clear waters. The site sits at the northern end of Byron Bay's main beach, providing an easy-access alternative to busier spots, with the wreck structure itself attracting small fish seeking shelter in the nooks and crannies.
