The Springs, also known as Springs Beach and Springs Reef, is a lesser-known snorkeling spot on the Mornington Peninsula along the eastern shores of Port Phillip Bay. This sheltered bay features a rocky reef platform that dips into clear, calm waters, making it an interesting spot to explore among boulders, kelp gardens, and shallow gutters. The site offers a quiet alternative to busier Mornington beaches, with a wild coastal feel and good snorkeling conditions on calm days. Access is via the Mornington Peninsula National Park coastal trail system.

  • Moderate risk: Unstable Cliffs

The cliffs backing the beach are unstable and prone to erosion. Stay on marked trails and do not approach cliff edges.

  • Moderate risk: Currents and Swell

Exposed to ocean swells and rip currents on windy days. Only snorkel on calm, low-wind days.

  • Low risk: Rocks and Reef

Sharp volcanic rock platforms and boulders in the water and at the entry/exit point. Wear reef shoes or booties.
