The Pinnacle is an offshore rocky reef site approximately 10 minutes by boat from Port Kembla Harbour on the NSW South Coast. Popular with charter operators running guided snorkel and freediving tours, the site is best known for encounters with Australian fur seals that play in the clear coastal waters around the pinnacle structure. The reef features shallow ledges, swim-throughs and kelp gardens that support a rich temperate marine ecosystem, making it a must-visit for adventurous snorkelers seeking wildlife interaction close to Sydney.

  • Moderate risk: Strong currents

Offshore reefs in this area can experience unpredictable currents that may challenge weaker swimmers.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

Access is via boat from Port Kembla Harbour; boat traffic in and around the harbour entrance requires awareness.

  • Low risk: Variable visibility

Coastal visibility can vary significantly due to swell, wind and runoff, especially after rain.
