The FV Lena is a deliberately sunk fishing trawler resting upright in 18 metres of water just 3 nautical miles off Bunbury, Western Australia. This artificial reef is renowned for its exceptional accessibility — much of the dive lies between 8 and 14 metres — and its striking intact features, including massive swim-throughs, an open engine room with motors still in place, and a hull encrusted with colourful sponges and corals. The wreck is a magnet for marine life and offers one of the best wreck snorkel/dive experiences in the Southwest Capes region.

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Ocean swells and wind

Best dived in low winds and light swell. Swell and wind can reduce visibility and make boat handling dangerous.

  • Moderate risk: Depth (18 m)

At 18 m depth, this site exceeds recreational snorkelling depth limits and is primarily a scuba diving site. Snorkellers should stay at the surface.

  • Moderate risk: Strong winds / choppy seas

The site is best dived in low winds and calm conditions. South-westerly winds can create challenging surface conditions.

  • Moderate risk: Wreck penetration hazards

While swim-throughs are large and open, entering enclosed areas of the wreck carries entanglement and disorientation risks for inexperienced snorkelers.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

The wreck lies 3 km offshore, accessed only by boat. Watch for other vessels in the channel.

  • Low risk: Strong currents

Offshore currents can be unpredictable around the wreck structure.

  • Low risk: Depth

The wreck sits at 18 metres, requiring good buoyancy control and fitness for extended breath-hold snorkeling. Bottom time is limited.
