The Holes is a lesser-known snorkeling spot along the NSW South Coast, characterised by natural rock cavities and fissures carved into the sandstone shoreline. These sheltered pools and channels trap clear, calm water even when the ocean swells, creating a maze-like playground for snorkelers to explore. The rocky reefs just offshore support algae, crustaceans, and small reef fish that dart between the crevices. Best visited on a low-swell day when water clarity peaks, The Holes offers a more adventurous, off-the-beaten-path experience compared to the region's popular sandy beaches.

Moderate risk: Swell surge through channels
Ocean swells can funnel through the rock channels, creating sudden surges that may push snorkelers into rocks.
Low risk: Sharp rock edges
The natural rock holes and ledges can have razor-sharp edges. Wear booties or rash guard for protection.
Low risk: Slippery rocks
Sandstone and algae-covered rocks at the entry points become extremely slippery when wet.
