The Bluff (Rosetta Head) is a celebrated snorkel and dive site on the Fleurieu Peninsula, 4 km southwest of Victor Harbor. A sheltered sandy beach with stair access leads into a rocky reef ecosystem renowned for one of South Australia's healthiest leafy sea dragon populations. Snorkelers swim out to a small fishing jetty, following the weedy reef edge where crayfish lurk in crevices and sea lions occasionally visit. The site is fully exposed to southerly winds, so calm northerly days deliver spectacular visibility and the best marine encounters among boulders, ledges and swim-throughs.

Moderate risk: Southerly Wind Exposure
Fully exposed to southerly winds; swells and choppy conditions develop rapidly. Only safe in northerly or low-wind conditions.
Low risk: Strong Current at Reef Edge
A notable current picks up beyond the sheltered area near the jetty. Turn around once current is felt.
Low risk: Slippery Rocks
Entry/exit over rocks near the fishing jetty is slippery and not recommended; use the sandy beach stair access instead.
Low risk: Poor Visibility After Wind
Water often has lots of suspended particles; visibility drops significantly after southerly winds.
Low risk: Open ocean swell
The Bluff is an exposed site that can receive ocean swell, making conditions rough on windy days.
Low risk: Boat traffic
The jetty is a working fishing jetty, so be aware of boat activity, especially near the jetty structure.
Low risk: Strong winds
Southern ocean winds can pick up quickly, creating choppy surface conditions and reducing visibility.
