The Basin is a sheltered, natural rock-enclosed pool nestled along Geraldton's foreshore at Town Beach, offering calm, crystal-clear waters perfect for beginner snorkelers and families. Protected from ocean swells by a limestone reef barrier, this shallow sandy-bottomed enclosure provides safe, gentle conditions where snorkelers can observe small reef fish, colourful wrasses, and the occasional stingray gliding across the sandy patches. With easy shore access directly from the beach, the Basin's tranquil lagoon-like setting makes it a favourite spot for a relaxed dip and easy underwater exploration right in the heart of Geraldton.

Low risk: Low tide shallowness
At low tide the water level in the Basin drops significantly, reducing clearance over the rocky bottom and reef edges.
Low risk: Sun exposure
Limited shade over the shallow pool area can lead to rapid sunburn on clear days; reef walkers should wear protective footwear.
Low risk: Boat traffic
The Basin is near the Geraldton foreshore and boating channels; keep an eye out for vessels entering and leaving the marina.
Low risk: Stingrays
Stingrays are known to inhabit the sandy shallows of Champion Bay; shuffle your feet when wading to avoid startling them.
