The Avon is a historic tugboat shipwreck resting in the Tamar River near York Cove, George Town in North East Tasmania. This shallow wreck sits in around 8–10 metres of water, surrounded by giant kelp forests and sponge gardens where seahorses, nudibranchs, and temperate reef fish shelter. The site offers a unique shore-entry wreck dive, with visibility that can reach 8–10 metres on a good tide. From George Town, head to York Cove on the Tamar River. The wreck is accessible from shore — local knowledge recommends checking tide times as low slack tide offers the best conditions. The site is just off the shoreline near the boat ramp area.
