Located off the Sunshine Coast near the Hervey Bay region, The 3 Ships Wrecks is an artificial reef site created by three scuttled vessels that rest on the sandy seabed. These wrecks have transformed into a thriving underwater habitat, encrusted with colourful soft corals and sponges, and attract schools of baitfish, wobbegong sharks, rays, and tropical reef fish. The site sits a short distance from the harbour and offers a unique snorkeling experience through sunken steel hulls and debris fields, with visibility often excellent in the region's subtropical waters.

Moderate risk: Strong currents
Tidal currents can sweep through the offshore wreck site, particularly on larger tide movements, requiring good fitness and awareness.
Moderate risk: Depth
The wrecks sit at depths beyond typical snorkeling range; snorkelers should stay near the surface and be comfortable in deep, open water.
Low risk: Boat traffic
The wrecks are an offshore site accessed by boat; vessels in the area including tour boats and fishing craft require vigilance from snorkelers at the surface.
Low risk: Sharp metal/wreckage
Exposed steel plates, cables, and debris from the scuttled ships can cause cuts and abrasions if swimmers make contact.
