Surf Beach is Kiama's main beach on the NSW South Coast, a sweeping crescent of golden sand backed by Coronation Park with lush grass, playgrounds, and picnic shelters. In calm conditions the nearshore waters offer sensational visibility and are teeming with fish, making it a rewarding snorkelling spot right off the beach. The northern end features "The Wedge," a popular surf break, while the southern rock platform adds interest for underwater explorers. Patrolled daily from spring to autumn, this is a family-friendly beach with easy access from the centre of Kiama.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Rip currents

Beach breaks can develop rips, particularly during larger swell periods. Swim between the red and yellow flags during patrol hours.

  • Low risk: Swell and surf breaks

The northern break known as 'The Wedge' can produce strong surf conditions. Snorkellers should stay clear of surf zones and stick to calmer nearshore waters.

  • Low risk: Rock platform

The southern end features a rocky platform that can be slippery and hazardous, especially during moderate swell or tidal movement.
