Sue's Groyne sits at the mouth of the Swan River, off Chelydra Park in South Fremantle. This artificial rock groyne creates a sheltered snorkel zone where the river meets the ocean. The shallow sandy entry gradually drops to around 2.5 m then shelves to 4–5 m along the groyne wall, where green algae carpets the rocks and encrusting life thrives. It's a go-to Perth shore snorkel for spotting octopus, cuttlefish, pipefish, and a variety of nudibranchs, especially on night dives. The site is mellow enough for beginners but rewards experienced snorkelers who explore the wall carefully.

Moderate risk: Boat traffic
The groyne is near the Swan River shipping channel and Fremantle harbour entrance; boat traffic can be a hazard near the outer end of the groyne.
Low risk: Variable visibility (Nov–Apr)
Visibility can be poor, especially after wind or rain, with green algae blooms common in warmer months reducing clarity to a few metres.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
An outgoing tide from the Swan River can create a noticeable pull along the groyne wall, requiring steady finning to hold position.
