  • Moderate risk: Strong tidal currents

Tidal flows through the southern Great Barrier Reef can create strong currents around offshore points. Snorkel with a guide and heed briefings.

  • Moderate risk: Marine stingers

Box jellyfish and other marine stingers may be present during warmer months (November to May). Wear a stinger suit.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

Snorkel sites accessed by boat tours may have vessel traffic entering and exiting the area. Stay aware of your surroundings.
