Stony Rise, located near Beachport in South Australia's Limestone Coast, is a remote 4WD-accessible campground just 800 m from wild surf beaches and rock pools. The rock pools along this rugged coastline offer natural snorkeling opportunities in calm, protected pockets among the limestone formations. These shallow pools are perfect for spotting small reef fish and invertebrates while the Southern Ocean swells crash against the outer reef. It is a wild, off-grid spot best suited for adventurous snorkelers with a capable 4WD vehicle.

Moderate risk: Rough surf and swell
The Southern Ocean can produce large, unpredictable swells that make entry and exit dangerous, especially near the outer reef.
Moderate risk: Remote location
No mobile reception or services nearby. Snorkelers must be self-sufficient with first aid, water, and emergency communication.
Low risk: 4WD-only access track
The access road to Stony Rise is unsealed and requires a high-clearance 4WD vehicle, particularly after rain when sand and ruts deepen.
Low risk: Sharp limestone rock platforms
The intertidal rock pools are bordered by jagged limestone rock which can cause cuts and abrasions if not careful entering and exiting.
