Nestled at the foot of the dramatic Illawarra escarpment, Stanwell Park Beach offers a picturesque stretch of sand framed by lush rainforest and soaring cliffs where hang-gliders drift overhead. This protected beach on the NSW South Coast sits just north of Wollongong, with calm inshore waters that can be good for a relaxed snorkel when conditions are settled. The backdrop of Bald Hill lookout and the nearby Sea Cliff Bridge make this a uniquely scenic spot, though the beach is more known for its family-friendly swimming and picnic reserve than dedicated snorkelling.

Moderate risk: Rip currents
Like many open ocean beaches, rip currents can form, especially after swell events. Swim between the flags when lifeguards are on duty.
Low risk: Variable water visibility
Visibility can drop after rain or during onshore winds due to runoff from the escarpment and creek outflow.
Low risk: Swell exposure
The beach faces east and receives ocean swells. Strong southerly swells can create hazardous shore dump and sweep along the beach.
