Spring Beach is a secluded, family-friendly sandy beach on Tasmania's East Coast, a five-minute drive from Orford and roughly an hour from Hobart. Sheltered in a pretty bay with sweeping views across to Maria Island, it features rocky tidal pools at either end that are fun to explore, and a clifftop walking trail connecting back to Orford. The gentle, undeveloped shoreline makes it a local favourite for swimming, kayaking, body-boarding, and especially snorkelling off the rocky edges where temperate reef life thrives. Unlike the busier East Coast beaches further north, Spring Beach retains a quiet, unspoiled character perfect for a relaxed day in the water.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Rip currents / undertow

Strong undertow and rip currents can develop, especially after storms. No lifeguards are on duty — swimmers and snorkelers must exercise caution.

  • Low risk: Strong undertow / rip currents

Occasional strong undertow can develop, particularly after storms or on larger swell days. No lifeguards are on duty.

  • Low risk: Cold water temperatures

Tasmanian waters are temperate year-round; wetsuit recommended for extended snorkelling.

  • Low risk: Rocks at entry points

Rocky edges and tide pools can be slippery; careful footing needed when entering and exiting the water.

  • Low risk: Storm swell

Large swell can roll in after storms, creating turbulent conditions unsuitable for inexperienced snorkelers.
