South Reef lies just off the southern end of Picnic Bay Beach on the rugged Wilsons Promontory coast within Gippsland. This sheltered western-facing bay features a sandy beach backed by granite boulders and a permanent rip current running against Picnic Point. The nearshore reef platform provides a varied seascape of shallow gutters and rocky ledges to explore in clear, cool waters. Snorkelers can drift over kelp-covered reefs where the boundary between the sheltered bay and the open Bass Strait swells creates an dynamic underwater environment.
