South Mole is a popular shore-entry snorkel and dive spot on the southern breakwater of Fremantle Harbour. The sheltering granite-block mole creates calm, protected conditions inside the harbour while the outer edge drops off into deeper water rich with marine life. Access is via Fleet Street near the Victoria Quay precinct, making it a convenient urban escape. Snorkellers can explore the nooks and crannies of the rocky wall where schools of fish, rays, and octopus are regularly sighted. The waters are typically clearer in warmer months and the spot offers a unique perspective of Fremantle's working port from the waterline.

Moderate risk: Boat traffic
Active Fremantle Port shipping channel nearby — vessels enter and exit the harbour directly adjacent to the mole. Snorkellers must stay well clear of the shipping lane and be highly visible.
Moderate risk: Strong currents
Tidal currents can be strong around the end of the mole, especially during tide changes and when the outflow from the Swan River meets harbour waters.
Low risk: Sharp rock surfaces
Granite boulders and limestone blocks are encrusted with barnacles and can cause cuts and scrapes when entering or exiting the water.
Low risk: Variable visibility
Water clarity can be poor after storms or when port activity stirs up sediment. Best conditions typically occur on calm summer days with minimal swell.
