Ski Run is a spectacular dive and snorkel site on the edge of the coral reef off the Cocos (Keeling) Islands' southern atoll. The site begins on the reef top before descending to a glassfish bommie where trevally actively feed. Below, look for sleeping white-tip reef sharks and extra-long garden eels swaying in the current. With depths ranging from 15 to 40 metres and average visibility of 25 metres, Ski Run offers pristine coral gardens, blooming hard and soft corals, and encounters with turtles, manta rays, grey reef sharks, and abundant tropical fish. The site is part of the Cocos Keeling Islands Marine Park, home to over 600 fish species.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Depth range (15–40 m)

Depth ranges from 15 to 40 metres; the deeper sections are for experienced snorkelers and divers only.

  • Low risk: Deep water profile (15–40m)

Ski Run extends from 15m down to 40m depth, which is beyond the range for recreational snorkeling and requires good buoyancy control and comfort at depth for divers.

  • Low risk: Tidal current / upwelling

The site sits on the edge of the reef drop-off where incoming tides can create upwelling currents, increasing water movement and drift potential.

  • Low risk: Seasonal wind chop

Stronger winds from June to October can affect sea conditions and boat access to the site.

  • Low risk: Tidal currents

The site can experience varying tidal currents, especially near the drop-off edge, requiring good buoyancy control.
