Shelly Beach is a protected, shallow sandy beach tucked behind large sand dunes on the coast of Ceduna, on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. Sheltered from the open Southern Ocean swells, the calm nearshore waters here offer excellent conditions for beginner snorkelers and families. The beach sits within a scenic conservation park setting, with the Ceduna Shelly Beach Caravan Park right behind the dunes. Its easy shore entry and clear, shallow water make it a go-to spot for a relaxed dip and a chance to spot small fish, crabs, and rays in the sandy shallows.

Low risk: Sharks
Ceduna waters are part of the Great Australian Bight — small sharks may occasionally venture close to shore, though incidents are rare. Swim in clear daylight hours and avoid dusk/dawn.
Low risk: Bluebottles (Portuguese Man o' War)
Bluebottles can drift onto Shelly Beach with onshore winds, particularly in summer. Stings are painful but not dangerous. Check local conditions before entering.
Low risk: Rip Currents
While generally sheltered, occasional rip currents can form near tidal channels. Always swim between the flags where patrolled or carefully assess conditions before entering.
