Tucked into the deep cliffs of the Bunurong Coast, Shack Bay is a small, protected cove within the Bunurong Marine National Park that offers calm, cosy conditions ideal for snorkeling. Part of a necklace of bays between Cape Paterson and Inverloch, this spot features a sandy beach entry framed by dramatic rock platforms. Its sheltered nature means the water stays relatively flat when other Bass Coast beaches get rough, making it a go-to for families and casual snorkelers wanting to explore the rocky reef habitats just offshore.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Rough swell conditions

Can get rough when the wind and swell pick up; best on calm days with low swell.

  • Low risk: Rocky reef edges

Submerged rock platforms near the shore require care when entering and exiting.
