Seal Point marks the eastern boundary of Crayfish Bay on the rugged Cape Otway coast, where 20–30 metre vegetated bluffs front extensive rock platforms and shallow offshore reefs. Snorkellers explore large underwater rock slabs, deep gutters carved into the platforms, and bommies at depths up to 10 metres, with schools of pelagic fish patrolling the reef edges. This exposed Bass Strait site delivers clear water on calm days but demands exceptional conditions — flat seas and offshore northerly winds — making it a wild, rewarding spot for experienced adventurers only.

High risk: Swell and rough seas
Exposed to Bass Strait swells. White water over the reef indicates dangerous conditions — abort and head home.
Moderate risk: Outgoing tide current
Strong currents can develop around the point, especially on an outgoing tide, sweeping snorkellers off the reef.
Moderate risk: Rock platform entry/exit
Entry is over a large rock platform with deep, uneven gutters that make exiting the water hazardous in any swell.
Moderate risk: Rapidly changing conditions
Weather and sea state can change quickly on this exposed coast. Northerly offshore winds flatten the sea, but any shift brings dangerous conditions.
Moderate risk: Strong currents and tides
Tidal flow through the gutters and around Seal Point can be strong. Check local tide times before entering.
Moderate risk: Isolated location
Remote coastal area with no lifeguards, limited mobile reception, and distant emergency services. Always snorkel with a buddy.
Low risk: Remote location
No on-site facilities, phone reception may be limited, and emergency services are far. Self-sufficiency is mandatory.
