Sandy Point lies on the eastern side of Dirk Hartog Island within the Shark Bay World Heritage Area, a sanctuary zone renowned for its exceptional coral gardens and gin-clear waters. This sheltered shoreline offers snorkelers easy access to vibrant reef systems teeming with marine life, all set against the starkly beautiful landscapes of Western Australia's dramatic outback coast. The calm, protected lagoon conditions here make it one of the region's most rewarding places to explore underwater without venturing far from shore.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Isolated location

Sandy Point is remote with limited immediate access to emergency services, requiring self-sufficiency and careful trip planning.

  • Low risk: Cool winter water temperatures

Despite the warm Leeuwin Current, water temperatures can be quite cool in winter months, potentially causing discomfort or rapid fatigue.

  • Low risk: Windy summer conditions

Strong winds during summer months can create choppy surface conditions and reduced visibility for snorkeling.
