San Remo Bridge is the gateway to Phillip Island at Newhaven, spanning the narrow channel between Western Port and the open ocean. The bridge's concrete pylons and the adjacent jetty create an artificial reef environment where weedy sea dragons, rays, and schools of fish gather in the tide-swept current. This is a unique drift snorkel site where you float under the bridge, riding the tidal flow past encrusted pylons, sponge gardens, and rocky reef — one of Victoria's most unusual shore-accessible snorkeling experiences.

Moderate risk: Strong tidal currents
The channel beneath San Remo Bridge experiences strong tidal flows that can sweep snorkelers. Best attempted on a slack tide only.
Moderate risk: Boat traffic
The bridge is a busy navigation channel with fishing boats and recreational vessels passing through. Stay alert and close to the pylons.
Low risk: Cold water temperature
Victorian waters are cold year-round. Wetsuit (5mm+) is essential for comfort and safety.
