Tucked within the sheltered curve of Guichen Bay on South Australia's Limestone Coast, Robe Town Beach offers calm, crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling just steps from the historic seaside village. Protected from the Southern Ocean swell by Cape Dombey, this sandy beach shelves gently into seagrass meadows and patch reefs where colourful fish, rays, and the occasional Southern Rock Lobster can be spotted. The 14 km stretch of Long Beach lies adjacent, while Town Beach itself provides easy shore access and glassy conditions ideal for beginners. Robe's rich maritime history — from its 1852 Obelisk to its heritage jetty — adds character above the waterline while the marine life below rewards every snorkeler.

Low risk: Outgoing tide current
A mild current can develop near the jetty and channel areas as the tide retreats from Guichen Bay, affecting less confident swimmers.
Low risk: Changing wind conditions
Afternoon sea breezes can chop up the surface, reducing visibility and making snorkeling less pleasant. Mornings are typically calmest.
Low risk: Boat traffic near jetty
Small recreational boats and fishing vessels use the jetty area; stay alert and avoid swimming directly beneath or near the jetty structure.
Low risk: Stingrays (shallow water)
Smooth stingrays are occasionally seen resting on the sandy bottom in shallow water. Shuffle your feet when wading to avoid accidental contact.
Low risk: Robe Jetty fishing lines
Fishing lines and hooks discarded from the jetty can be a hazard for swimmers and snorkelers near the pylons.
Low risk: Shallow reef patches
Rocky reef patches near the beach entry points can be sharp underfoot; wear reef shoes.
