Redbill Beach is a sweeping 1 km crescent of pristine white sand on Tasmania's east coast, nestled between the Diamond Island spit and the rugged headland of Redbill Point. Exposed to the north-east, this sheltered surf beach also offers excellent shore-entry snorkelling along its rocky southern margins, where granite boulders create protected shallow pools teeming with curiosity. The backdrop of windswept coastal heath and the nearby Governor Island Marine Reserve make the water clarity exceptional on calm days. At low tide, adventurous snorkellers can cross the sandbar to explore the rock platforms around Diamond Island, while penguins waddle ashore at dusk — a truly wild Tasmanian coastal experience.

Moderate risk: Tidal cut-off to Diamond Island
The sandbar connecting Diamond Island to the beach is only passable at low tide; rising tides can cut off access rapidly, stranding visitors on the island.
Moderate risk: Surf rips and shore break
As the primary surf beach for Bicheno, occasional swells and shore breaks can create strong rip currents, especially along the central and northern sections.
Low risk: Slippery rocks and barnacles
Snorkelling near the rocky headlands at Redbill Point and the base of Diamond Island involves slippery, barnacle-encrusted boulders, especially in surge conditions.
Low risk: Surf conditions
As the main surf beach in Bicheno, waves can roll in with moderate energy, creating shore-dump and rip potential, especially on windy or high-swell days.
Low risk: Rocky reef at southern point
Redbill Point's granite boulders and submerged reef edges can be sharp; care needed when entering/exiting near the headland.
Low risk: Protected bird nesting areas
The dunes and foreshore behind the beach are protected nesting habitat for little penguins and shorebirds — visitors must avoid disturbing these areas.
