Also known as "The Aquarium," Quobba Lagoon is a naturally protected coral-filled lagoon at Point Quobba, about 75 km north of Carnarvon on Western Australia's remote Coral Coast. Sheltered from the open Indian Ocean by a rocky reef, this calm, shallow lagoon offers crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkeling. The name "Aquarium" suits it perfectly — colourful reef fish, shells, and the occasional turtle or shark drift through the coral gardens. Rugged limestone coastline, the famous Blowholes just 1 km north, and white sandy beaches make this a spectacular spot where the desert truly meets the sea.

Moderate risk: King waves
Powerful and unpredictable waves can surge over the reef edge into the lagoon, particularly during rough swell conditions.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
Water can flow out through gaps in the reef, creating currents that may pull swimmers toward the open ocean.
Low risk: Sharp reef and rocks
The lagoon floor contains coral and limestone formations with sharp edges; reef shoes are recommended.
