Pulu Maraya is a tiny, uninhabited sandy island just off the eastern shore of West Island in the Cocos (Keeling) Islands. Accessible by a short reef walk from Scout Park at low to mid tide, this spot offers a delightful drift snorkel in shallow, crystal-clear waters (1-2 metres deep). The gentle current carries you around the islet, past coral ledges teeming with pufferfish, tropical reef fish, baby reef sharks, and sea turtles. The calm, warm waters and spectacular marine life make it a must-do snorkel in this remote Indian Ocean paradise.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Tidal access window

The reef walk from Scout Park to Pulu Maraya is only possible at low to mid tide. At high tide, the channel is too deep to wade across.

  • Low risk: Drift current

A gentle current flows around the island, creating a drift snorkel. Beginners should be comfortable swimming in moving water.

  • Low risk: Sharp coral/reef

Sharp coral and rocky patches on the reef walk could cause cuts to bare feet.
