Pretty Point Bay is a sheltered 450 m north-to-northeast-facing rocky bay tucked into the Batemans Marine Park, just south of Malua Bay on the NSW South Coast. The southern side, protected by Pretty Point itself, is the go-zone when a southerly breeze picks up. Near the beach, rocky ledges wear thick kelp forests that transition into urchin barrens further offshore — a classic temperate-reef habitat where surprises like blind sharks occasionally turn up. The small pocket of sand at the western corner provides easy shore entry, but adventurous snorkellers with dive boots can scramble along the rocks at the base of the headland for deeper water access.

Low risk: Urchin barrens
Extensive black-spined urchin barrens further from shore — sharp spines can cause injury if stepped on.
Low risk: Rocky entry and exit
Entry is over rocks and kelp-covered ledges; bare feet are vulnerable to cuts and slips. Dive boots or reef shoes recommended.
Low risk: Swell exposure
While partially sheltered, ocean swells can wrap into the bay, especially around the headland, creating surge over submerged rocks.
