Port Welshpool is a sleepy coastal village on the edge of Corner Inlet in South Gippsland, best known for its 800-metre-long historic timber jetty—one of Australia's longest. Sheltered by the islands of the Nooramunga Marine and Coastal Park, the calm, shallow inshore waters offer clear visibility on still days, making it a peaceful spot for a gentle snorkel among jetty pylons and seagrass beds. The jetty attracts squid, schools of baitfish, and the occasional stingray cruising the shallows. Beyond the jetty, the marine park's intricate network of waterways and islands provides a quiet, off-the-beaten-track alternative to the busier Mornington Peninsula sites.

Low risk: Fishing activity on jetty
The long jetty is popular with anglers; fishing lines and hooks can pose a risk to swimmers and snorkelers near the pylons.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Corner Inlet has local boat traffic, particularly near the jetty and channel. Snorkelers should stay aware and avoid the main boating lane.
Low risk: Cold water temperatures
Victorian coastal waters are cold year-round (typically 12–18°C). Extended exposure without a wetsuit can lead to hypothermia.
