Port Douglas Beachfront centres on the stunning Four Mile Beach, a palm-fringed stretch of compact white sand lapped by the calm Coral Sea. Snorkellers can explore the fringing reef located just offshore, with clear turquoise waters offering views of vibrant coral gardens. This patrolled, safe swimming beach provides a gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, with Low Isles and Snapper Island visible on the horizon. The gentle incline and usually calm conditions make it an inviting spot for casual snorkelling right from the shore.

Moderate risk: Marine stingers (box jellyfish/Irukandji)
Marine stingers (box jellyfish and Irukandji) are present in tropical waters. Swim within the stinger-protected enclosure during the season.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
The outgoing tide can create a current along the beach that may pull swimmers away from the shore.
Low risk: Rough sea conditions
Periods of rough sea conditions can create strong waves and rips, particularly during the wet season.
