Point Moore, a short drive from Geraldton's city centre, is renowned for its sheltered limestone reefs riddled with caves and crevasses that create a natural aquarium for snorkellers. The iconic red-and-white striped Point Moore Lighthouse stands sentinel above the shoreline. Calm conditions, especially at low tide, reveal abundant reef fish and pelagic species amid the rocky ledges and sandy patches. The protected inshore waters make this an ideal beginner-to-intermediate shore-entry snorkel, with easy access from the beach next to Marine Terrace. Family-friendly and consistently clear, it's one of the Mid West's most accessible snorkelling destinations.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Low tide shallow rocks

Limestone reef platforms and rocks become exposed at low tide; watch for sharp edges and shallow areas when entering and exiting the water.

  • Low risk: Swell surge near reef

During moderate to large swell events, surge can push snorkellers onto limestone ledges and into caves. Check conditions before entering.

  • Low risk: Limestone reef shelves and crevasses

The limestone reef has uneven surfaces, caves, and crevasses that can cause scrapes or entrapment if snorkelers venture too close without care.

  • Low risk: Swell and surge on exposed sides

When ocean swells pick up, the outer edges of the reef can experience surge and breaking waves that may be challenging for weak swimmers.

  • Low risk: Low tide reef exposure

At low tide, shallow reef areas can be very close to the surface, requiring care to avoid scrapes and bumps.
