The spot

Community-maintained

Community contribution: submitted by Daniel

Tucked just north of Green Head township, Point Louise is a wild, windswept headland where the limestone reef meets crystal-clear Indian Ocean waters. The warm Leeuwin Current sweeps tropical visitors past hard and soft corals, seagrass meadows, and sponge gardens that carpet the underwater ledges. Sheltered deep-blue holes offer exceptional visibility on calm days, making this a prime spot for swimming alongside sea lions, stingrays, and a kaleidoscope of reef fish. Above water, the lookout frames surfers and kiteboarders riding the break below.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Surf Break & Shore Dump

Point Louise is the primary surf break in the area. Swell and shore-dumping waves can create challenging entry/exit conditions, especially for inexperienced swimmers.

  • Moderate risk: Offshore Currents

The warm Leeuwin Current flows past the point, and offshore rips may develop around the limestone reef edges, posing a risk for swimmers drifting out.

  • Moderate risk: Swell and surf break

Point Louise is a primary surf break; larger swell days create strong wave action and rip currents hazardous for snorkelers.

  • Low risk: Swell & Wind Exposure

The point is exposed to ocean swell and prevailing winds, which can quickly reduce visibility and create choppy, turbulent water.

  • Low risk: Limited Sheltered Entry

There are no sheltered beach-entry coves immediately at the point; entry is directly into the surf zone or via rocky limestone ledges.

  • Low risk: Rocky limestone reef

Sharp limestone reef edges and rocks near the shore can cause cuts and scrapes, especially when entering or exiting the water.

  • Low risk: Changing tides

Tidal movements can shift water depth and clarity in the blue holes, potentially exposing reef or creating unexpected currents.
