Point Lonsdale Township Reef is a shallow near-shore reef system lying just south of Point Lonsdale's front beach where the coastal cliffs begin. After descending the steps from street parking, a short walk south along the beach leads to a small rock platform — the entry point. At low tide the reef emerges as a mazy rock platform with tide pools teeming with small fish. Depths range from 1 to 5 metres, making it a relaxed snorkel for beginners, though the tide currents here are strong and should be respected. The reef sits within the protected Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park, offering a vibrant intertidal and subtidal habitat just a stone's throw from shore.

Moderate risk: Outgoing tide current
Tidal currents strengthen as the ebb tide slackens; do not dive on a rising tide when swell increases. Strong currents can carry snorkellers out beyond the reef.
Moderate risk: Swell conditions
Even a hint of swell makes the reef unsuitable — surf conditions develop quickly and can be dangerous for snorkellers.
Low risk: Exposed reef at low tide
The reef is very shallow at low tide and parts may be exposed, making entry tricky and increasing risk of cuts from sharp rock.
