Point Leo Reef is a shallow, beginner-friendly snorkeling site on the eastern flank of the Mornington Peninsula, overlooking Western Port Bay. The reef is formed from ancient basalt rock, creating a mosaic of weed-covered patches, rocky crevices, and sandy gutters between 3 and 8 metres deep. Starting on the eastern side and circling the point rewards snorkelers with calm, protected conditions and a surprising diversity of marine critters. Its gentle depth profile and easy shore access make it an ideal introduction to Victorian reef snorkeling, especially on a high tide when the reef top comes alive with activity.

Low risk: Slippery reef platform
The reef can be very slippery when wet, especially on the exposed basalt platforms at low tide.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
Tidal currents flow through Western Port and can become moderate around the point. Snorkel on a rising tide for the calmest conditions.
Low risk: Surge near the point
Swell from the Bass Strait can wrap around the point, creating unexpected surge conditions.
