Moderate risk: Remote location
Over 20 km from Penong and more than an hour's drive from Ceduna. No mobile phone reception in many areas, and emergency services are a very long way away.
Low risk: Calcarenite reef cuts
Sharp limestone/coral-like calcarenite rock reefs border the beach. Snorkelers can easily get cut or scraped when entering or exiting the water, especially in swell conditions.
Low risk: Great white shark presence
The Great Australian Bight is known for its population of great white sharks, particularly near seal colonies and in deeper water beyond the reef line.

Getting in
From Penong on the Eyre Highway (A1), turn south onto the unsealed Cactus Beach Road, located just west of the Penong school. Follow the dirt road approximately 23 km south to reach the beach. The road is usually accessible by 2WD in dry conditions but can become rough or boggy after rain.
Informal dirt parking area near the beach. No marked bays. Can fill up during holiday periods and surfing events.
