Pelican Point Reef sits at the north-west end of Daveys Bay in Mount Eliza, on the Mornington Peninsula. A gentle, shallow reef system sloping from 3 to 5 metres deep, this site offers protected waters ideal for novice snorkelers and divers. The rocky reef terrain is punctuated by narrow sandy patches between 20–30 m high coastal bluffs, creating a scenic and calm snorkeling environment close to Melbourne. Its easy shore access and consistent conditions make it a favourite for casual after-work dips and weekend underwater exploration.

Low risk: Boat traffic near beacon
The beacon marks the reef's edge and boats pass through this area; maintain vigilance and a surface marker buoy.
Low risk: Shallow rock ledges
Irregular rocky slabs at 3 m depth can cause injury if swimming in rough conditions or at low tide.
Low risk: Cold water temperatures
Port Phillip Bay water temperatures range from 10°C in winter to 22°C in summer; a wetsuit (5 mm+) is strongly recommended year-round.
Low risk: Variable tide levels
Tidal movement can expose shallow parts of the reef; check local tide times (Ranelagh Beach) before entering.
Low risk: Rocks and reef edges
Uneven rocky terrain with edges and crevices near the shoreline and in shallow water.
Low risk: Boat traffic in Daveys Bay
Occasional recreational boat activity near the reef area; maintain awareness of surroundings.
